Blended Creole Epis Blend

We did it...We have finally perfected our own Epis blend! Epis aka Ground Spice is a staple in Haitian cooking. This fresh vegetable spice blend is used to marinate and cook just about any and everything. Made in a large batch you can find a huge container of some sorts in the fridge of most Haitian households. Although the vegetables used are standard for most epis recipes, everyone has their own special blend. After getting the ingredients used in J's favorite family blend from one of my sister-in-laws, we've spent the better part of the past six months perfecting our own special epis blend.

INGREDIENTS

2 Large Red Bell Peppers

4 Medium Green Bell Peppers

5 Green Onions

10 Garlic Cloves

3 Jalapeno Peppers With Seeds

2 Habanero Peppers With Seeds

1/2 Cup of Parsley

1/4 Cup Cilantro

2 Packets of Sazon

2 Tablespoons of Adobo Seasoning

3 Cubes of Maggi Seasoning

1/2 Teaspoon of Scotch Bonnet Pepper Powder

1/2 Cup of Extra Virgin Olive Oil

KITCHEN EQUIPMENT NEEDED

Food Processor or Blender

RECIPE

  1. Wash and roughly chop all your vegetables and herbs.

  2. Add all ingredients except olive oil to your food processor.

  3. Blend while slowly adding olive oil until your blend is a fine well blended consistency.

  4. Refrigerate and enjoy using your epis blend to marinate and cook!

NOTE

Vary the level of spice in your blend by removing seeds of the Jalapeno and Habanero peppers as well as using a touch of Scotch Bonnet Pepper powder.
